Don L. And Julia Larrabee Love

Banker; Lawyer; Mayor; University Benefactor

Don L. Love was a successful Lincoln businessman, banker, and lawyer. Love and his wife Julia Larrabee Love were active in Lincoln’s social and business affairs. Love was founder of Lincoln Liberty Life Insurance Co., served as president of Lincoln National Bank, served on the public school board, and twice served as Mayor of Lincoln, from 1909-1911, and from 1929-1931. Although Love graduated from the University of Iowa, he made several generous gifts to the University of Nebraska.

Love and his wife were childless. When Mrs. Love died, her husband erected two dormitories in her honor, the Love Memorial Cooperative on the agricultural campus, and Love Hall, an addition built as a wing on Raymond Hall. When Mr. Love died in 1940, funds from their estate were used to erect Love Memorial Library, which was completed in 1945.
