Nelle Cochrane Woods

Nelle Cochrane Woods was born in 1870 in Illinois. She moved to Lincoln in 1884 and lived there for the remainder of her life. She attended the University of Nebraska and received at Bachelor of Arts degree in 1893. In 1894 she married Frank H. Woods.

Mrs. Woods, and her husband, Frank Woods, were well known in Lincoln for their business interests, in particular Lincoln Telephone and Telegraph, their social standing, and as art collectors. Frank and Nelle Woods were instrumental in acquiring art for the Sheldon Art Gallery, and eventually for the creation of the Woods Charitable Fund.

Mrs. Woods was a sustaining member of the Nebraska Art Association for many years. When Mrs. Woods died in 1950, her husband established a fund for the construction of the Nelle Cochrane Woods Art Building.
